Why get your air con serviced?

Manufacturers recommend that your cars air conditioning system should be serviced every two years. This is because over time refrigerant gasses can leak out due to the environment that it is working in, extremes in temperature, vibration & the nature of rubber hoses. It is not the same as a household air conditioning system which does not require the charging of refrigerant gas. Regular servicing of your auto A/C system will prolong its life & help prevent failure in system components.

What is done in a standard A/C service?

The service includes checking the system, evacuating the refrigerant gas from the system. We weigh the gas that comes out and compare it to the amount of gas that should be in the system. If there are no problems or leaks then we regas the system with fresh A/C gas, lubricant and UV Dye.

How do you find a leak in my A/C system?

When looking for leaks, we are able to pressure test the system with Trace-A-Gas. This helps us to more accurately locate the source of the leak in the vehicles A/C system.

Do you use UV dye?

Yes. It is part of every A/C service we do. We will put UV dye in the system when regassing & lubricating to allow for future detection of leaks.

Why is my car A/C not cold anymore?

There can be multiple reasons why this is. Most of the time it is because it is low on gas due to either a leak in the system or not being serviced in a long time. Other factors like faulty compressor, blocked thermal expansion valve, condenser or evaporator faults could also be to blame. We advise getting your air conditioning system fault professionally diagnosed by us here at Caboolture Auto Electrics & Air Conditioning.

What is a cabin filter?

Most late model vehicles have a cabin filter installed. This prevents dust, debris, pet hair etc. from getting on your evaporator core in your A/C system under the dash. It is sometimes changed at a normal engine service but we always check it as part of our A/C service. Symptoms of a blocked cabin filter could be reduced air flow and / or odours from your vents.

I was told to run my air con even in winter, is this true?

Yes. It is recommended to run your A/C at least once a week all year round. This is to ensure the lubrication in the system is being circulated to prevent O rings from drying out and to lubricate the compressor. It is also beneficial to use your air conditioning to help demist your windscreen.

Why should I come to you to get my air con checked?

We suggest bringing your vehicle to us because not only are we experienced A/C technicians, but we are also Auto Electricians. This means if there is an electrical issue with your system we can diagnose it. Modern vehicles have a lot more electrics in the A/C system then they used to. We often have people coming in saying they had their car air con re-gassed down the road but it still didn’t work & were told to go see an auto electrician. Come to us first.
